Count Your Blessings #35

What made me feel blessed this week:
uniorcs, going swimming with my nieces and nephew, a Long-tailed Tit in our garden!!! (which is only my favorite tit and I have been hoping to see one in real life for aaaages!)!!!, cleaning, drawing and painting, THE BEST IDEA EVER EVER EVER, delicious pecan/blackberry/pear cake, out with the old; in with the new, daffodils and other bulbous plants, my brother adopting three super duper sweet bunnies from the shelter I work in, going for a walk in the woods and the fact that I'm going back to bed now because I have the flu.

You don't choke on the winter's end

The air was cold but the sun shone, I was feeling sick so my mom, my little doggy Sofie and I went for a walk and picknick in the icy woods. She stuffed three big garbage bags with brown leaves for her garden, Sofie ran around like Cujo until her legs were tired and I filled my lungs with the fragrant air and collected samples of moss to press.

Count Your Blessings #34

What made me feel blessed this week:
spring in the air, this song stuck in my head thanks to my Valentines Sale, working on commissions, our fireplace, spending almost an entire day in the movie theater watching Anna Karenina and The Hobbit with Menah, Wagamama, long hot Lush baths, starting to read Stephen King's The Stand, cleaning, all of your lovely lovely messages, the latest Yeasayer album (I didn't like it at all when it first came out but I'm pretty crazy about it now), smiling piggies, Evil Dead marathon day, amazing risotto that tasted like spring, the interwebz, working at the animal shelter, the little hare pin I thrifted, feeling more and more sure about important decisions, baby plants, my cat-friend Brian, spoiling myself by buying lovely art supplies at De Vlieger, actually being ridiculously happy after I have been feeling rather shit for weeks, mail from Mimi, watching Forbrydelsen/The Killing with my mom and crying with laughter because we hate it so much (we wiiiill make it to the end of this season though! Whether we want to or not!), knitting and cross-stitching, sunshine, starry skies, Menah's amazing illustration of us, riding my bike, everyone who's reading this ♥

Rhesus Macaque

This is the first of a new series I'm doing here on the blog! It's sort of a drawing diary thingy, probably mostly animal nature stuff. Because you know, that's what I like.
In this first one I drew this female rhesus macaque and her skull, one of which I found in a thriftstore a while back (you can see it here). It took me forever trying to figure out what animal the skull belonged to. I did a bazillion of those little internet tests but they all said either human (no way) or primate (not specific enough). I tried to get a book on the subject but I couldn't find any thing nice. Then one day, I was just reading my RSS feed and came across a post by Elsa Billgren, and then there it was. A picture of a rhesus macaque's skull, in one of her paris posts. I'm so excited because that's one of my favorite monkeys and I just could not resist drawing one. And, here it is! Count Your Blessings #33

What made me feel blessed this week:
my wonderful animal family, the first snowdrop bulbs in bloom (SPRING?!), doing another Utrechts Landschap illustration, workworkwork, making buttons and stickers and more buttons and stickers, lovely feedback and messages, the bestest friends on the planet, sunshine, finishing Pet Sematary (which was amaaaazing!), starting The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (which was long overdue but is so far just annoying me), making important decisions, season after season of Friends, natuurdrop, knitting, a new Rilakkuma iPhone case, Feline, sleep.
