Spent the day at my parent's house on an extremely lovely sunny day. Reading on the terrace, cuddling the piggies, helping my mom out in the garden, taking Sofie out for a walk on the flowery dikes, and just hanging out in the sun. Exactly what I needed. Can't wait till next month so I have some more time on my hands to actually make regular visits!

Jaap and I are actually looking for a new home in the neighborhood since I officially decided I'm not a city person (and other reasons). Finding something decent we can afford seems absolutely impossible though. LIFE you guys! Hard stuff.

First day of the new year and I'm still editing pictures from summer 2014. I know it's crazy but last year flew by before I knew it. All I did was work and work some more and sleep on my days off. Juggling two jobs I love has been awesome (AWESOME) but extremely tiresome and I have been neglecting basically eh, everything else.
But hey! Here are some pictures of last year's(!) summer at my parent's, which is absolutely wonderful every year. Here's to hoping I get to visit more this time around! Have a great 2015 cuties!

Wool and Blossom

When I was visiting my mom the other week (same day thís happened) I found that one of our yellow plum trees was blown over in the big storm of last month. The crazy thing was though, it seemed that in sort of a last twitch of life it bloomed with blossom more than ever. I've never seen anything like it, it was like an huge explosion of white flowers. Amazing right? These pictures don't even fully capture it. Still I'm glad I took so many because when I visited again the other day it was almost completely gone. I wonder if it'll still grow little plums? I'd miss picking fresh breakfast in the morning.

Pig in Space

These pigs! I miss them so much. City life is fine and all but WHERE ARE THE PIGGIES?! WUUF! UGH! Needless to say I'm always very happy to see these guys when I can, and as was the case the last couple of days while visiting my parents. Love these fluffy guys!
The adventures living on the country side will bring you though.

Last night I woke at about 2 am from a bunch of police men pounding on our doors and windows. They came to ask if we owned pigs, a black one with lighter spots in particular. When I told him we most certainly did he answered that this very pig was miles away, ON THE HIGH WAY, blocking the entire road and traffic. They had been out there for half an hour already. Six police men, three police cars with flashing lights, one pig. One very very confused pig, determined to stay just right there where she was. We spent about three hours trying to get her out of there. We tried everything. She had no real interest in food so luring her back home with old bread and orange peels was no option. She was way too stressed. We tried just grabbing her to get her in the car but that's one heavy and, most importantly, strong pig. Six buff police men couldn't lift her. I guess there's no need to get into every single detail but believe me, we tried everything. For hours. I even woke up the local veterinarian to ask her to give her some kind of anesthetic, which we obviously dreaded but felt like we didn't have a choice. Fortunately it didn't get that far, after a few hours we got our cool farmer dude neighbor out of bed who brought around his horse trailer and I don't know how but we managed to get her in and brought her home.
Where her brother was still sound asleep.
Three hours in the dark cold night in the middle of the high way, pushing and pulling our beloved but very stubborn pig friend. Such a crazy experience. It'll probably always remain a mystery how she got out of a locked barn and why ever the hell would she go out that far on the road? I really don't think we'll ever know.
Definitely one for the books though.

Muddy

In contrary to popular belief, pigs do NOT like to roll around in their own filth. They DO like a good mud bath though! It has been reaaallyy hot out here and all of our animals are having a hard time dealing with it. We try our best to make it as comfortable as possible for them though, so we like to hose down our horsies and piggies once a day, and our little Daisy (the black piggy pictured above) loves it like no other! I'm def making a video later, she splashes and rolls around in the mud while she makes the best oinky noises it's the sweetest thing!
