Shrimp City - March Films

Jennifer's Body (2009): This was such a great and hilarious film! Satan, high school and an indie-band. Seriously awesome. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Slumdog Millionaire (2008): I must say, this was not as amazing as I thought it would be. I thought the whole flashback-construction was a bit boring, but in the end the film did really fascinate me as it showed the life in a city that is so interesting and different. ♥ ♥ ♥

The Muppets (2011): Watched in the cinema with Anne. So funny and awesome and sweet :D Watch it! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Ginger Snaps (2000): I love coming-of-age/horror films, and this was a pretty good one. Really enjoyable! ♥ ♥ ♥

Juno (2007): Re-watched this with my husband. Still love it. So sweet and awkward. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Batman Begins (2005): I really love this one, I think the new Batman movies are really not that bad! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

The Shining (1980): One of my favorite Stephen King films. SO GOOD. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I also did some other filmrelated stuff this month. I went to a Buster Keaton program in my local cinema, where they showed four films accompanied by live piano music (played by Dutch filmcritic Kevin Toma). We watched His Wedding Night (1917), The Frozen North (1922), Cops (1922) & My Wife's Relations (1922). Although I'm not the biggest fan of the genre that Keaton mostly wrote (slapstick), I find him such an interesting actor with his beautiful, fascinating face and his small elastic body. Of all these films I enjoyed Cops the most, but they were all pretty good. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

& I went to the Magic & Matter Symposium where we watched (amongst other things) two films by Segundo de Chomón: El hotel eléctrico (1908) & La maison ensorcelée (1908).I had seen these films before, but really enjoyed watching them as they make use of so many amazing effects! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Also: I forgot to mention last month that I've been watching A LOT of Georges Méliès' films, both last month and this month. Of course they are very short (especially the early ones), so I won't mention them all. But I did want to point out that I bought this amazing box. It has nearly all his films (at least the ones they could find) in very good restored condition. So if you're interested in Méliès, this is a very good box to buy!

I've been watching a lot of really bad films this month! So, you don't have to watch these: Süskind, The happy housewife / De gelukkige huisvrouw, Stricken / Komt een vrouw bij de dokter, Zathura, A Space Adventure (a boring Jumanji), Albert Nobbs, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (really boring to me), Scary Movie 3, The Hunger Games (blegh).

The Hole (2001): This movie was pretty bad, even though I remembered it to be alright? The plot is sortof okay though and I don't regret watching it again. And it was so weird to see Dexter's Quinn and Lewis' Hathaway so young! Very confusing haha. ♥ ♥ ♥

The Muppets (2011): AWESOHOHOME! I loved this SO SO SO much! So funny, so beautiful, so well done! I want all of Amy Adams' clothes and I want to marry Jason Segel. Best Muppets movie ever and I didn't even know that was possible! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Pleasantville (1998): Such a sweet film with a great concept. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Final Destination 2 (2003): I have this weakness for bad highschoolish horror movies. This was pretty awful but I enjoyed it anyway, probably because of the funny killingscenes. ♥ ♥ ♥

Alice in Wonderland (1999): I tend to like adaptions of the Alice in Wonderland story just because I love the book. But I think this is actually pretty good! The Alice in this one is kinda flat but I love the other characters! Very well designed. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Theo en Thea en de Ontmaskering van het Tenenkaas Imperium (2011): Hilarious. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Final Destination 3 (2006): Same as 2. ♥ ♥ ♥

Rose Red (2002): My favorite haunted house film! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Aladdin (1992): Gotta love Aladdin! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996): From back when vampires were actually cool. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

1408 (2007): Such an amazing book, a so-so film. ♥ ♥ ♥

Thinner (1996): This is actually pretty bad, especially if you haven't read the book. Which is awesome. Go read the book. ♥ ♥ ♥

IT (1990): I was in a Stephen King kinda mood, can you tell? For some reason spring does that to me. Anyway, another one where the novel was better than the film but this is a classic for a reason! And Tim Curry is my hero. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

All Dogs Go To Heaven (1989): One of my favorite childhood films! Has a lot of cool references to other films (like Scarface) and I sing one of the songs all the time :') ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Secret Window (2004): Mort Rainey is my favorite character ever to be played by Johnny Depp. For some reason I simply ADORE the visual of him eating a bag of doritos in his jammies. I'm not really sure why. Anyway, this was also based on a great Stephen King novel and they made a pretty good movie out of it as well. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Clue (1985): Based on the boardgame! A very cute and funny film with multiple endings! And my hero Tim Curry. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Salem's Lot (1979): Another one from back when vampires were actually cool. I read this novel not too long ago and it was so so so good. The film is not just as amazing but very visually appealing and still very good! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Jack and The Beanstalk: The Real Story (2001): Cute but kinda flat. ♥ ♥ ♥

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995): Okay, I'm just going to admit this; I FIND ACE VENTURA EXTREMELY HILARIOUS. So. That's it. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Beetlejuice (1989): Gotta love Beetlejuice! One of those films you just have to watch on a regular basis. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

The Sword in the Stone (1963): My favorite Disney film, ever. The artwork is just... there's nothing like it. So very fucking good. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

The Goonies (1985): TRUFFLE SHUFFLEEE!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

You don't have to watch these: Stealing Harvard, Hostel, Gothika, The Waterboy

I would've watched a lot more if I hadn't also watched the last three seasons of Gilmore Girls haha! I have been working extremely hard this month and I can not work without some film playing in the background (music just doesn't seem to cut it). So I mainly watched films I had already seen before so I could just listen and know what's going on anyway.
