Boerhaave
Mirjam and I had the best day at Museum Boerhaave in Leiden, which must have been one of the weirdest places I have ever been. It's the Dutch National Museum for the History of Science and Medicine which is obviously really intresting and awesome but oh man, these people have the silliest sense of humor. I'm not sure you can really tell from these pictures but it was hilarious, they had so many ridiculous things! A skeleton of a monkey with a hat riding a cow and a talking dog and a children's arm in a jar holding a choroid and a big toe with a granny hat and actual bezoars and some sort of super freaky crab/goose hybrid which talked and danced and hahaha I still can't believe we actually saw all those things. I guess it's safe to say this museum was right up our alley and we had a great time, I would totally recommend going there if you're into that sort of thing.

Hihi die uil <3
ReplyDeleteIk kan echt niet geloven dat dat museum daar al die tijd gewoon was!!
Ons leven!!! Wat was het waard!!!!
DeleteAs an animal lover I always feel in doubt about these samples in museums. It's good that dead samples about animals helped us understand them, but a lot of animals were killed for the sole purpose of taxidermy in the golden age. What do you think, Anne? Looks like this museum has a lot more to offer though, those illustrations are so detailed, wow. :O
ReplyDeleteOh I totally agree! But I feel you can't turn back time so you'd better enjoy them while they're there :)
DeleteIk wist niet dat een slak er zo uit zag van binnen. :O Wat een bizar museum, jammer dat Leiden zo ver weg is.
