When I was in high school I used to sew a lot: I'd place flowers on my skirts, convert my normal jeans into flared jeans and put cute buttons on everything. However, I didn't have a sewing machine so I had to go to friends to use theirs, and did everything else by hand. So, I was obviously very happy when recently my mother-in-law decided to give me her old sewing machine! I've been trying some serious sewing from then on, and wanted to share the results with you :)
I've tried sewing with pre-made patterns several times, but I never really liked it. The patterns just never seemed to fit my body and I would end up altering everything into a completely different pattern. So when I got this new sewing machine I decided to start simply with just altering dresses.
Both the blue dress and the dress with the hearts are from H&M. I really liked the fabrics, but the dresses not so much. They had collars I didn't like and a very tight strip of fabric in the middle that wasn't very comfortable. So I altered them into these nicely loose dresses :) I also took off the sleeves of the blue dress. The green dress was a thrift find of which I also altered the collar, and I shortened it a bit.
After altering these dresses I felt that I was getting closer to my perfect dress-pattern, so I drew a pattern based on the things I liked in these three dresses and made (for the first time) a completely new dress!
I made this dress out of this beautiful fabric that I found in my local fabric shop. I added a broad piece of fabric and two loops to tie the dress, a small chest-pocket with a button and several other buttons that look like they close the dress (but they really don't, it's just fake. I stole this idea from Anne haha!).
After this dress I felt I could go a bit further, so today I made a new dress!
It has sleaves! And elastic inside so it fits nicely! And a round collar! I'm really happy with it :)
Do any of you sew? Do you use pre-made patterns or do you make patterns of your own? I'm curious!
