Thrifty Finds - Taxidermy Edition

I haven't made a thrifty finds post in ages! I haven't stopped thrifting though, in contrary, I pretty much stopped shopping anywhere else. When I need something I search all of my favorite thriftstores first, before I even think about going to a regular store. (Even for dumb supplies like envelopes or screws or nailpolish remover and stuff like that. Haha! Some thriftstores will sell anything!) Anyway you get my point, I thrift a lot. And I want to start showing off more of my finds here! Starting today with my taxidermy treasure!

This may be my weirdest find ever. It's an assembled animal (God knows what they combined to make this), which mouth opens up, and actually has an ink pot inside. And ugly satin lining. I may have done a little dance when I found it. Okay, I certainly did a little dance when I found it.

Jup, horse teeth necklace. That's right! I wish I knew the story behind this one. Horse obsessed girl keeps teeth of dead horse and wears them around her neck?

Again, I'm not really sure what this is and what they did to it but it is some sort of blown up frog with marble eyes. It has the cutest butt. I'm thinking of knitting him a little sweater, he looks like he's cold.

I bought this pretty scorpion at the Dutch Art Collaboration pop up store, and I reaaally love it. It's in perfect condition and the glass case is so pretty.

Caiman necklace! This is probably my favorite, I wear it all the time!

Ugly little weasel dude with his ears on it's neck

This piranha has the sharpest teeth! I love how he's mounted on those two little nuts.

My super excited caiman! This was actually a birthday gift from my mom because I couldn't afford him at the time, isn't he cute? Even with his missing fingers!

This little squirrel has the softest fur and the sweetest teeth and paws! And it was a steal too!

Female rhesus macaque skull! Unfortunately she's missing her front teeth.

This lady was probably my most expensive purchase but I just couldn't resist, the pangolin is one of my favorite animals! She isn't in the best state and needs a good cleaning but I'm smitten with her little face and hairy butt.

Ohh I can not wait to get my own place so I can display them all neatly together
Am I the only one who collects silly taxidermy? What's your favorite taxidermy find?

Count Your Blessings #5

What made me feel blessed this week:
Work, sunshine, my piggies bathing in their new freshly built mud bath, making and sending promotion packages, our fluffy sheep finally getting sheared (they look ridiculous now!), getting my Holga TIM toy camera in the mail and playing around with it, my nieces and nephew, whatsapping with a drunk friend, water, a cute little dead mouse, baking the best cupcakes ever, great thrift finds, saying goodbye to my tadpole-friends, strawberry ice cream, my commission journal filling up quickly (ai ai ai!), making headbands, seeing The Dark Knight rises with Mirjam and Ben, reading, tshirts and cut-off shorts, sleep, Columbo and bike rides.

Count Your Blessings #2

What made me feel blessed this week:
A huge woodpecker sitting on our shed, finally hanging my pretty lace curtains, our sweet sweet piggies bathing in a kiddiepool because it is so hot out, awesome friends to make cool gifts for, bike rides, flowers, gifted dead bumblebees, making ravioli from scratch (the dough is whole wheat tomato and they are filled with grilled peppers, feta cheese and basil), flocks of starlings, my dear Brian being with me for a whole year already, adorable thrifted planters, rain, Feline's crazy birthday party and most of all; being able to live where I live now and enjoying every second of it.
